where we come from

Teaching Collective (TC) was founded by writers who believe in teaching as an art form, a creative practice in progress. As writers, we were concerned about teaching consuming a writer’s energy to write. As teachers, we craved intelligent, sustained investigation within a community of talented professionals. We resolved to create the resource we needed: a learning ecology that would inspire and renew us, broaden our skill set, discover links between the two practices, grow the field, and turn teaching into something we could practice not just for the foreseeable future, but for the rest of our writing lives. 

TC's founding directors are Jesse Nissim, Mary DeNardo, Alison Baker.
